Elon Musk has publicly rebuked President Trump’s signature tax bill, arguing it undermines efforts to rein in federal spending. The Tesla boss, who once led the Department of Government Efficiency, said in a CBS interview that the bill “increases the budget deficit rather than reducing it”.
The bill, which narrowly passed the House, combines sweeping tax cuts with increased military and immigration enforcement funding. Musk warned that these measures threaten to undo the savings achieved under his leadership at DOGE.
Musk’s remarks have added fuel to internal Republican debates, with some lawmakers now questioning whether the bill’s benefits outweigh its fiscal risks as it moves to the Senate.
