UAE Denounces Houthi Hostility Towards Saudi Arabia in Bold Statement

Date:

The United Arab Emirates has issued a strong condemnation of the Houthi group’s recent threats against Saudi Arabia, which include the possibility of a maritime blockade. The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the urgency of the international community’s role in upholding United Nations Security Council resolutions related to Yemen and maintaining maritime security in the Red Sea.

The ministry called attention to Resolution 2216, which concerns the situation in Yemen, and Resolution 2722, which is focused on safeguarding navigation rights and ensuring the freedom of movement in the Red Sea. These resolutions are seen as crucial measures to counteract any threats that could disrupt regional security and stability.

Highlighting the importance of international maritime law, the UAE stressed that freedom of navigation in international waters is a right protected under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. This framework is vital for securing safe passage and maintaining global trade routes, which could be jeopardized by the Houthi’s aggressive statements.

Furthermore, the UAE reaffirmed its unwavering support for Saudi Arabia in the face of these threats. The ministry expressed full solidarity with the kingdom and endorsed any actions necessary to safeguard its security and stability. This stance underscores the UAE’s commitment to regional peace and cooperation, as well as its alignment with international efforts to resolve ongoing conflicts in the region.
