Saudi Cabinet Emphasizes Unrestricted Navigation in Key Regional Waterways

Date:

Saudi Arabia’s Cabinet emphasized the critical need to ensure freedom of navigation in key regional waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz, the Bab Al-Mandab Strait, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden, during its session on Tuesday. The call underscores Saudi Arabia’s stance against any form of restrictions or fees that might hinder maritime movement, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, urging a return to pre-February 28 conditions.

The Cabinet reiterated its opposition to the use of these vital waterways as tools for geopolitical pressure or threats that could compromise the interests of other nations. This emphasis on maritime security comes amid ongoing regional tensions, highlighting the strategic importance of these channels for global trade and energy supplies.

In a related development, the Cabinet expressed its approval of the United Nations Security Council’s recent condemnation of intensified attacks on Saudi Arabia by the Houthi forces. The session also covered a range of regional security issues, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s ongoing concerns about stability in the Middle East.

On another front, the Cabinet addressed the Palestinian issue, condemning actions that affect the status of Al-Aqsa Mosque. It reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to a two-state solution, advocating for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Furthermore, the Cabinet reviewed Saudi Arabia’s participation in the United Nations General Assembly, highlighting the nation’s support for international cooperation and multilateral initiatives. This reflects Saudi Arabia’s broader diplomatic agenda and its role in global affairs.
