Saudi Arabia and Serbia Enhance Collaboration in Energy, Tech, Trade Sectors

Date:

Saudi Arabia and Serbia are enhancing their economic and diplomatic ties, with a focus on fostering collaborations across various sectors including energy, technology, agriculture, and trade. Recent discussions between the two nations have centered on potential joint energy initiatives, advancements in information and communications technology, and agricultural partnerships. In addition, efforts are being made to amplify the presence of Serbian enterprises in the Saudi market while simultaneously encouraging Saudi investments in Serbia.

A significant development in their diplomatic relations occurred when Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Duric signed an agreement in Belgrade to eliminate visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports. This agreement is anticipated to streamline official exchanges between the countries, further solidifying their cooperative efforts.

Economic relations between Saudi Arabia and Serbia have seen a significant uptick, with bilateral trade reaching $121 million in 2025, a figure nearly nine times higher than in 2012. The momentum continued into the first half of 2026, with trade figures climbing to $130.4 million, marking a 152% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. These figures underscore the rapid expansion in trade relations, driven by mutual interests and emerging opportunities.

Looking ahead, the upcoming EXPO 2027 in Belgrade and EXPO 2030 in Riyadh are set to provide a platform for further investment prospects, business collaborations, and knowledge exchange. Saudi Arabia is set to participate in EXPO 2027, where it plans to highlight its advancements in economic growth, innovation, cultural heritage, and investment potential.

Additionally, both countries are keen on exploring joint ventures in science and technology. Serbia is also preparing to showcase its agricultural prowess by participating in the Saudi Food exhibition in Jeddah, bringing more than 50 companies to the event. This initiative reflects the ongoing efforts of both nations to deepen their engagement across diverse sectors and capitalize on shared opportunities.
