KFSH Leads with 48% of Saudi Clinical Trials in Early 2025

Date:

King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH) has emerged as a pivotal player in Saudi Arabia’s clinical research landscape, having conducted nearly half of the country’s registered clinical trials in the first half of 2025. This significant involvement underscores the hospital’s expanding influence in the realm of advanced healthcare and clinical studies. A dedicated team comprising investigators, research nurses, pharmacists, coordinators, data specialists, and ethics and regulatory experts supports these operations, ensuring a seamless transition from scientific planning to patient recruitment, trial execution, safety measures, and data management.

Since the establishment of its centralized Clinical Trials service in 2020, KFSH has been pivotal in orchestrating research conducted by its clinicians and investigators. This service is instrumental in supporting feasibility assessments, study activation, trial operations, patient recruitment, investigational medicines, data quality assurance, safety reporting, and compliance with regulatory and ethical standards. The first half of 2025 saw KFSH managing 104 active clinical trials and initiating 80 new studies across various medical disciplines such as oncology, cardiovascular health, autoimmune and musculoskeletal disorders, dermatology, gastroenterology, liver disease, and endocrine and metabolic conditions. This diversity in research not only offers patients access to innovative treatment options but also generates vital clinical data pertinent to the healthcare demands of Saudi Arabia.

A notable milestone for KFSH was the commencement of a Phase I clinical trial involving genetically engineered CAR-T cells, locally manufactured for treating relapsed acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This trial symbolizes the convergence of local scientific expertise, state-of-the-art biomanufacturing capabilities, and specialized clinical care within a unified research framework. Such advancements in cell therapy research highlight the hospital’s commitment to pioneering medical innovation.

Moreover, KFSH’s established clinical trial infrastructure facilitates participation in complex international studies, reinforcing its role in global research collaborations. The hospital’s robust research governance and specialized clinical competencies provide a solid foundation for partnerships with multinational research entities, all while upholding patient safety, ethical standards, data quality, and regulatory compliance. As a testament to its achievements and approach to clinical research and healthcare innovation, KFSH will present at the C3 US NYC Davos of Healthcare Summit 2026 in New York City on September 14.

KFSH’s contributions have earned it a place among the leading academic medical centers worldwide and within the Middle East. The hospital’s reputation is further bolstered by its healthcare brand and its standing in international hospital rankings, reflecting its commitment to excellence in clinical research and patient care.
