Apple Set to Revolutionize Global Market with New Foldable iPhone

Date:

Apple is poised to make a significant splash in the foldable smartphone market with the anticipated release of its first foldable iPhone. Analysts predict that Apple’s entry could revitalize a sector that has recently experienced a slowdown, with global foldable smartphone shipments dropping by 8% in the first half of 2026. Despite this decline, market research firms are optimistic about a rebound in the latter half of the year, forecasting total shipments to reach approximately 23 million units for 2026 and to continue growing into 2027.

Industry experts expect Apple to quickly capture a substantial share of the foldable market. According to Smart Analytics Global, Apple’s share could hit 25% by the end of 2026, potentially climbing to 41% by 2027. However, the initial rollout of Apple’s foldable iPhone could be hampered by supply constraints due to the complexities of manufacturing foldable devices. The expected price point of over $2,000 may also curb initial demand and lead to a staggered market release, starting in select regions before a wider global launch.

With Apple’s entry, the foldable segment is anticipated to become one of the fastest-growing areas in the smartphone industry. Research firm IDC projects that Apple could ship more than 17 million foldable iPhones by 2027, which would secure the company about 40% of the global foldable market. The overall market for foldable smartphones is expected to reach 22.9 million units in 2026, marking a 12.6% increase, and grow to around 27 million units in 2027, representing an 18% growth rate.

The launch of Apple’s foldable iPhone could significantly alter the competitive landscape, challenging current leaders like Samsung, Huawei, Vivo, and Xiaomi. Reports indicate that the device might feature a 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.8-inch foldable main display. Additionally, it could be equipped with Touch ID, an A20 Pro chip manufactured with a 2-nanometer process, and dual 48-megapixel cameras.

If Apple successfully navigates the manufacturing hurdles and addresses the high price concern, its entry could provide a considerable boost to the foldable smartphone category. This move could rapidly establish Apple as a dominant force in the market, reshaping the dynamics and driving growth in the coming years.
