Qatar has issued a strong condemnation of the recent Houthi attacks on civilian and economic facilities in southern Saudi Arabia, aligning itself with the Kingdom’s efforts to safeguard its security and sovereignty. This stance was communicated by Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani during a phone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan. The call also focused on discussing the broader regional developments and diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and promoting stability in the region.
The Houthi attacks, which have struck locations such as Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran, resulted in injuries to 73 civilians, including women and children. Some energy infrastructure was also disrupted temporarily. Qatar characterized these attacks as a significant escalation and a breach of Saudi sovereignty and international law. The Qatari government has urged the international community to take firmer measures against such assaults and to support the enforcement of pertinent UN Security Council resolutions concerning Yemen and the security of the Red Sea.
